Ileana Moro (b. 1992) es una artista autodidacta y multidisciplinaria originaria de Costa Rica. Actualmente vive y trabaja en Amberes, Bélgica. Su práctica abarca la fotografía, la escritura, la pintura, la escultura, la instalación de video y la performance.

Su obra se despliega como un diario visual—una reflexión sobre la existencia misma—un proceso continuo de vivir, una meditación sobre las corrientes invisibles que moldean la vida interior. El trabajo de Moro se interesa menos por representar el mundo visible que por expresar las emociones fugaces, las tensiones silenciosas y las preguntas existenciales que definen lo que significa existir. Sus creaciones se enraízan en las dimensiones de la experiencia: los estados emocionales, espirituales y psicológicos que conforman la condición humana.

Sus pinturas revelan un temperamento introspectivo y en constante búsqueda. Aborda el arte como un proceso de descubrimiento, permitiendo que las fuerzas invisibles de la memoria, el anhelo, el duelo y la trascendencia salgan a la superficie. La ausencia de figuras humanas en su obra no implica ausencia de humanidad; por el contrario, pinta el clima emocional de lo humano: las tormentas, los silencios y los crepúsculos que atraviesan a todos. Sus lienzos pueden leerse como portales hacia el clima interior del alma.

Una corriente espiritual recorre su obra. A través del juego entre la sombra y la luz, evoca los espacios liminales donde lo sagrado puede irrumpir, creando umbrales que invitan al espectador a adentrarse en las capas más profundas de la experiencia, más que en otro mundo. En el núcleo de su práctica reside una paradoja: un abrazo simultáneo a la ambigüedad y la intensidad. Su trabajo refleja una vida vivida en contacto con los extremos—el duelo y el asombro, la tensión y la liberación—sin buscar resolución. En cambio, invita al espectador a habitar lo no dicho, a permanecer en el espacio emocional que su obra evoca.

La técnica de Moro refleja esta apertura. Guiada por la intuición, su proceso permite la espontaneidad, la fluidez y el surgimiento de materiales subconscientes, produciendo obras que oscilan entre el control y la entrega, entre el dolor y la belleza. Su arte transforma la experiencia interior en forma visible, ofreciendo tanto a la artista como al espectador un encuentro catártico. Al honrar la ambigüedad más que la explicación, sus pinturas permanecen abiertas, cargadas de emoción y resonantes con las dimensiones ocultas de la vida.

Ileana Moro (b. 1992) is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist from Costa Rica. She currently lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. Her practice encompasses photography, writing, painting, sculpture, video installation, and performance.

Her practice unfolds as a visual diary—as a reflection on existence itself—an ongoing process of living, a meditation on the unseen currents that shape inner life. Moro’s work is less concerned with depicting the superficial world than with expressing the fleeting emotions, quiet tensions, and existential questions that define what it means to exist. Her creations are rooted in the dimensions of experience: the emotional, spiritual, and psychological states that shape the human condition.

Her paintings reveal a temperament that is introspective and searching. She approaches art as a process of discovery, allowing the unseen forces of memory, longing, grief, and transcendence to surface. The absence of human figures in her work does not signify absence of humanity; rather, she paints the emotional weather of being human—the storms, the silences, the twilight moods that pass through all of us. Her canvases can be read as portals to the soul’s inner climate.

A spiritual undercurrent runs through her work. Through the interplay of shadow and light, she evokes the liminal spaces where the sacred might enter, creating thresholds that invite viewers into the deeper layers of experience rather than another world. At the core of her practice lies a paradox: a simultaneous embrace of ambiguity and intensity. Her work reflects a life lived in contact with extremes—grief and awe, tension and release—without seeking resolution. Instead, she asks the viewer to dwell within the unspoken, to inhabit the emotional space she evokes.

Moro’s technique mirrors this openness. Guided by intuition, her process allows spontaneity, fluidity, and the rise of subconscious material, producing works that hover between control and surrender, pain and beauty. Her art transforms inner experience into visible form, offering both artist and viewer a cathartic encounter. By honoring ambiguity rather than explanation, her paintings remain open-ended, emotionally charged, and resonant with the hidden dimensions of life.

“I believe that our purpose in this world goes beyond superficial accomplishments. I think we are here to tap into the unseen aspects of ourselves, particularly our souls. The soul is an incredibly powerful force that requires nurturing and growth. We are complex beings with a multitude of layers and dimensions. Existence is not simply a physical experience, but also a deeply existential one. In my work, I explore these existential concerns by delving into questions of purpose, and the energy of the invisible. What drives me is definitely the provocation and contemplation, inviting me to reflect on their own existential journey.”
