Ileana Moro ( 1991 ) Costa Rican autodidact artist. Lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium
Her practice unfolds as a kind of visual diary, a record of her ongoing search for meaning beyond the visible world. Moro's work is rooted in a desire to understand the unseen forces that shape her inner life—the quiet tensions, the fleeting emotions, the unanswered questions that define what it means to exist.
Darkness and shadow occupy a central place in her visual language. For Moro, they are not simply visual contrasts but active presences—companions and teachers. They illuminate what might otherwise remain hidden, offering lessons in depth, vulnerability, and transformation. Her compositions often evoke a sense of stillness charged with emotion, as if something unsayable were taking form.
Her technique reflects a deliberate openness. Guided more by intuition than by plan, her process allows for spontaneity and fluidity. In this space of uncertainty, the subconscious rises to the surface, shaping works that hover between control and surrender, between pain and beauty. There is a meditative calm in her approach, akin to the way music fills a quiet room—softly, insistently, without explanation.
To Moro, life is a continual oscillation between grief and joy, chaos and clarity. Her work does not seek resolution, but rather honors the complexity of experience. Each piece becomes a fragment of a larger inquiry into presence, memory, and the poetic dimensions of being.
